Huntingdon ends Piedmont's reign as men's GSAC tournament champions
DECATUR, Ga. --- The Huntingdon men’s tennis team earned its first Great South Athletic Conference Tennis Tournament Championship and first title as a NCAA Division III institution on Sunday afternoon, with a 5-2 victory over seven-time defending champion Piedmont.

The Hawks (14-2) have now won 12 consecutive matches and conclude the 2008 season undefeated in GSAC play. Huntingdon will now wait to see if it will have an opportunity to participate in the NCAA Division III Tennis Tournament. The NCAA will announce its postseason participants on Tuesday, April 29.

“We were a part of history today, as no one other than Piedmont has ever won this tournament on the men’s side,” head coach Charlie Lane said. “This is such a great way to conclude an awesome season. We had a great core of returning players from last year, as well as a good group of freshman that made all this possible. This program has come a long way since I arrive two years ago and I truly believe that we just scratched the surface of what we can do.”

Huntingdon took a 2-1 advantage after the doubles portion of the match. Junior Glenn Rudolph and freshman B.J. Foroughian defeated David Gillespie and Joey Leonardo at the No. 1 doubles position, 8-5, while junior Dalton Allen and freshman Graham Neely knocked off Jacob Brown and Matt Howell, 8-0, at the third spot.

In singles, freshman Zach Molin defeated Matt Goodall in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 5 position, before Neely defeated Alan Creasy at the No. 6 spot, 6-0, 6-2.

With the match victory only one point away, junior Glenn Rudolph slammed the door with a straight-set victory, 6-0, 7-5, over Moses Das at the No. 2 singles position. With the match-clinching win, Rudolph, who extended his personal win streak to 12 straight matches, was named the 2008 GSAC Tournament Most Valuable Player.
